No fee for the test

IRCC’s fee list has no separate fee for the citizenship test. Adults 18 to 54 take it, and IRCC invites you to it after you apply.

Paying, and refunds

  • You pay online and upload the receipt with your application. An application paid short is returned.
  • If IRCC doesn’t approve an adult’s application, it refunds the right of citizenship fee. A minor’s application isn’t refunded.
  • If you withdraw, or IRCC closes the application because documents it asked for didn’t come or a test, interview, hearing or ceremony was missed: the full amount back before processing starts, the right of citizenship fee (adults) after. Processing has started once you have the acknowledgement of receipt.
  • Pay more than the fee and IRCC refunds the difference without being asked.

Count before you pay

An application sent without the days it needs and found short later is refused, and the processing fee isn’t refunded. Count your days with the calculator, then with IRCC’s physical presence calculator, before you pay.
