Worked cases · When to apply
Should you apply the day you reach 1,095 days?
By this count, a PR since 1 November 2023 with two trips home reaches 1,095 days on 4 December 2026 — and IRCC encourages applying with more than 1,095, in case a day was miscounted. Signing on 3 January 2027 instead, the five years before it hold 1,125 days: 30 to spare.

The days left
Every day, five years
4 Dec 2021 – 3 Dec 2026 · 1,826 days
The five years start 4 Dec 2021, but nothing counts before 1 Nov 2023, so the calendar starts there. The window slides with the date.
Every day from 4 December 2021 to 3 December 2026. 2 trips taken, 34 days away in all. By this count, the 1,095 days are there on 4 December 2026. Today is 18 October 2026. Vietnam: 10 Jul 2024 to 31 Jul 2024, 20 days away. Vietnam: 20 Dec 2025 to 4 Jan 2026, 14 days away.
Worked through
The trips to Vietnam were 20 and 14 days away. With nothing else away, every day you wait past 4 December 2026 adds one to the count — as long as you stay.
Whatever day you choose, it has to be the same in three places: the calculation’s application date, the date you sign its printout, and the date you sign the application. And the signing date can’t be in the future, or more than 90 days before IRCC receives the application.
So the count is done again on the day you sign, not the day you first looked.
What would change the answer
- A trip between now and the day you sign takes its days out of the margin: a trip before your citizenship date.
- Half a day matters at the line: half a day short of 1,095.
