Worked cases · Time before PR

Trips abroad before PR: how much do they cost your citizenship date?

By this count, half of what they would cost after PR. 90 days abroad while you were a student here moved the 1,095 days by 45 days, to 16 June 2027: each of those days would have counted as half a day anyway.

Every day, five years

16 Jun 2022 – 15 Jun 2027 · 1,826 days

The five years start 16 Jun 2022, but nothing counts before 1 Sep 2023, so the calendar starts there. The window slides with the date.

Every day from 16 June 2022 to 15 June 2027. 2 trips taken, 90 days away in all. By this count, the 1,095 days are there on 16 June 2027. Today is 18 October 2026. Ghana: 15 Dec 2023 to 10 Jan 2024, 25 days away. Ghana: 20 Jun 2024 to 25 Aug 2024, 65 days away.

Worked through

The time before PR, 1 Sep 2023 – 31 Dec 2024, has 398 days in Canada once the trips to Ghana (25 and 65 days) are taken out. Half of that is 199 days of credit.

Without the trips, the credit would be 244 and the date 2 May 2027. Each day of credit lost is a day as a PR to make up, so the date moves 45 days, not 90.

You still declare them: IRCC asks for absences from before you became a PR that fall inside the five years.
